Her work includes contributing to cross-ecosystem initiatives such as the Lingang–Cambridge Network and partnering with Medilink Midlands to support organisations engaging with China. She is currently leading the development of two new EFEC initiatives planned for rollout in 2026 to mark the organisation’s 20th anniversary: the EFEC UK–China Life Sciences Innovation Hub\, which focuses on strengthening trust\, alignment and governance between leaders of like-minded innovation ecosystems in both countries; and CognateUK\, an evidence-led talent capability initiative exploring upstream development pathways for globally minded professionals. \n  \n \n  \n  \n  \n  \n  \n  \nJames Fry – Partner and Head of Life Sciences\, Mills & Reeve \nJames leads our full-service life sciences practice\, and advises on IP and IP licensing\, strategic contracting and cross-border transactions. He has deep expertise in licensing and partnering\, research collaborations\, supply chains and the development and distribution of life sciences products\, including medical devices and pharmaceuticals. James has notable experience working on deals involving life sciences companies in China\, particularly in research collaborations and licensing\, and has advised on a number of high profile in-licensing and out-licensing transactions involved Chinese biotechs and pharma companies. His clients include biotech and pharma companies\, medical device companies\, universities\, medical research charities and government bodies. \n  \n \nProfessor Keith Jackson \nProfessor Keith Jackson is a Chartered Engineer and Chartered Director with over forty years of experience in British manufacturing\, international trade\, and business leadership. He has led multi award-winning MedTech companies\, where he designed manufactured and exported innovative healthcare solutions to more than 70 countries\, building strong links across Asia and China. As The Master Cutler for 2025–2026\, Keith champions international trade\, education\, and healthcare. A former Non-Executive Director of Medilink\, he continues to advise scaling businesses in life sciences on innovation\, internationalisation\, and leadership. Keith also serves as a Non-Executive Chair and Director for high-growth SMEs\, including on an international board in Hong Kong\, supporting cross-border collaboration and market expansion for British technology companies. \n  \nPanelist\n\nPaul Bowman – Barclays \nAs the Vertical Head of International for Barclays Business\, Paul’s role is to support colleagues and SMEs to explore international trade\, by providing insight and education and to confirm that whilst international trade may be complex\, it need not be difficult.  He has created training and support material for trade and has hosted events and webinars focused upon helping businesses grow through importing and exporting.  As well as supporting colleagues and clients\, Paul also leans into work with product and propositions\, and represents Barclays in discussions with Government\, Department of Business & Trade and other external agencies.  With over 30 years’ experience within the banking industry\, he is a keen ally of those looking to broaden access to the opportunities available through overseas trade and activity.
