SUMMARY:WEBINAR: Infection Control: What has Covid taught us?
DESCRIPTION:**PLEASE NOTE THAT THIS EVENT WILL NOW BE HELD ONLINE**\nThe latest session in the Infectious Diseases Special Interest Group (SIG) series is taking place on Wednesday 14 September. Organised in partnership with De Montfort University\, the session will be chaired by Dr Maitreyi Shivkumar\, Senior Lecturer in Molecular Biology at the Leicester School of Pharmacy\, and will include three presentations from our expert panel (see programme and speaker profiles below for full details). \nTo book your free spot at this ONLINE event\, please click here.\nSpeakers and presentation titles \n \nDr Maitreyi Shivkumar\, Senior Lecturer in Molecular Biology\, School of Pharmacy\, De Montfort University \nSession Chair \nMaitreyi Shivkumar is a Senior Lecturer in Molecular Biology in the School of Pharmacy at De Montfort University. Her research interests are in developing novel antivirals and understanding host-virus interactions\, with a focus on coronaviruses and HIV. She has also developed coronavirus models and systems to evaluate environmental stability and antiviral efficacy of disinfectants against human coronaviruses. \n  \n \nDr Enrico Ferrari\, Senior Lecturer in Biotechnology\, School of Life Sciences\, University of Lincoln \nPresentation title: The mechanism of adsorption of SARS-CoV-2 spike protein onto solid materials: Can new knowledge contribute to infection control? \nEnrico studied for his BSc+MSc in Biotechnology at the University of Udine\, Italy between 1996 and 2001. He subsequently completed a PhD in Nanotechnology\, graduating from the University of Trieste\, Italy in 2007. Enrico went on the undertake a Postdoc in Biophotonics from 2007 to 2009 at CNR\, Trieste\, Italy\, followed by a Postdoc in Molecular Neurobiology between 2009 and 2012 at the MRC Laboratory of Molecular Biology\, Cambridge\, UK. He joined University of Lincoln’s School of Life Sciences in 2012\, where he is currently a Senior Lecturer in Biotechnology. Enrico primarily studies the mechanism of interaction between biomolecules and nanoparticles and applies this knowledge to the field of nanobiotechnology. \n  \n \nDr Gracy Sailo-Lebeau\, Director of Technical Projects and Head of R&D\, Residual Barrier Technology Ltd \nPresentation title: Are biodegradable disinfectants effective against dry surface biofilms and multi drug resistant bacteria? \nGracy oversees the R&D department at Residual Barrier Technology where I take the lead role in new and innovative product development from concept to launch. Gracy has a BSc in Plant Pathology and MSc in Agricultural Microbiology\, and obtained a PhD in Environmental Microbiology at Coventry University in 2008. As a Post-Doctoral Research Fellow\, Gracy investigated the antimicrobial properties of plants and chemicals and have since worked in commercial research\, new disinfectant development\, regulatory affairs\, infection control and hygiene related areas. \n \nSiobhan Murphy\, Regulatory Specialist\, Contec Cleanroom Ltd. \nPresentation Title: EU and GB Biocidal Products Regulation – A Post-Brexit Update \nSiobhan is a Regulatory Specialist with over 10 years experience in the field of chemical regulations\, primarily biocidal product legislation. Having previously worked as a consultant\, Siobhan joined Contec in April 2018 to manage the authorisation of their cleanroom disinfectants in the EU\, GB and global markets. \n*** \nThis free-to-attend event is held as part of the SoLSTICE programme – a project part-funded by the European Regional Development Fund\, click here to be re-directed to further information about the project. \nPlease note: whilst this event is held as part of the SoLSTICE programme\, attendance is not restricted to companies in the Leicester/Leicestershire area and is open to all.
