She leads the organisation’s mission to help companies innovate\, scale\, and succeed by strengthening regional collaboration and driving industry\, academic\, and clinical connectivity. Melanie also serves as Executive Lead for the West Midlands Health Technologies Cluster (WMHTC)\, where she plays a central role in shaping a joined-up regional strategy to accelerate healthtech innovation and boost the Midlands’ visibility on the national and global stage.\nOver her fifteen years with Medilink Midlands\, Melanie has progressed from Innovation Project Manager to COO and now CEO. She has been instrumental in bringing together Medilink West Midlands and Medilink East Midlands into a single organisation\, and in guiding significant funding programmes that enhance the region’s innovation ecosystem. With a background spanning industrial research\, business and economic development\, and international investment – gained through roles at emda\, bioKneX\, and West Pharmaceutical Services\, Melanie brings deep sector insight and strategic focus to her leadership. She holds a BSc (Hons) in Animal Science from the University of Nottingham. \n Prof Martin Levermore MBE DL \nProf Martin Levermore MBE DL\, Vice Chair for Nehemiah United Churches Housing Association (UCHA)\, CEO of Medical Devices Technology International Ltd (MDTi) and Chair of Medilink Midlands. He is also a Trustee of New Roots Charity and a Director of the Birmingham Commonwealth Association (BCA) as well as Executive Committee Member of the Greater Birmingham Commonwealth Chamber of Commerce. Martin is a Senior Associate of Royal Society of Medicine\, a Chartered Member of the Chartered Institute of Securities and Investment and a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts. \nMartin has been published widely in several academic journals and hold appointments with Birmingham City University (BCU) as Visiting Professor for Health\, Education and Life Science and Honorary Consultant for Health Innovations with the Royal Wolverhampton NHS Trust. \nMost recently\, in December 2021\, Martin was appointed a Non Executive Director to the Royal Wolverhampton Hospital Trust. \n \nJules Merrison \nGroup Captain Jules Merrison has 25 years of Armed Forces experience\, serving in the Royal Air Force Medical Services. She has specialised in medical planning\, operations and aeromedical evacuation\, completing operational tours in Iraq and Afghanistan\, working for NATO in Belgium\, and completing a wonderfully sunny 2-year tour in Cyprus. In 2024\, Jules was seconded to the Executive Team of Invictus Games Birmingham 2027 – the most excellent career pivot.  Jules is the Director of Impact and oversees\, Sustainability\, Accessibility\, Social Impact\, Culture and Arts\, and Research.   \n  \n  \nRichard Howells OBE  \nRichard is CEO of applied research company Bronze Software Labs and Founder of The Tribe Project. A ‘tech for good’ entrepreneur\, Richard has a proven track record in the implementation and scaling of AI-centric digital initiatives aimed at addressing national and global inequalities.  \nRichard is the driving force behind The Tribe Project\, winner of the British Industrial Strategy Ageing Grand Challenge\, an initiative which directly tackles national home care inequality. Tribe has been recognised by the WHO and UN as one of the top ten global innovations in healthy ageing\, and Richard has been named British Tech Pioneer of the Year for his advancements in AI.  \nIn June 2025\, Richard was appointed an Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE) by King Charles III for Services to Business\, Technology & Innovation.  \nRichard holds a Doctorate in Computer Science (honoris causa) and is an NHS Innovation Fellow. He is currently undertaking a Doctorate in Business Administration (DBA) researching the macroeconomics and socio-economic impact of community-based care models.  \n  \n \nMarco Morgado \nMarco Morgado works with early-stage founders and investors\, bringing a practical perspective on the current investor landscape and what it means for growing businesses. With 25 years’ experience across enterprise\, mid-market and SME environments\, he supports pre-seed and seed-stage companies with strategy\, positioning\, routes to market. His work with investors gives him a clear view of how opportunities are assessed before investment decisions are made. Marco combines commercial judgement\, practical structure and a warm\, founder-focused approach to helping teams shape credible\, scalable and investable businesses in complex markets\, including healthcare.  \n \nJudith Stewart \nAs the Director for Economic\, Commercial and Business Development for Health Innovation West Midlands\, Judith support innovators and health care systems to discover\, develop and deploy innovations for the betterment of all. She sits on a number of regional and national Advisory Boards\, building the ecosystems to support people with employability\, skills and health. Across her 25+ year career\, she has been instrumental in economic\, employment and community development across the South West and the Midlands. With a wide ranging network of contacts and connections to support organisations\, she enjoys tackling challenges with curiosity and creativity\, always seeking better outcomes for the communities she serves.    \n  \nProf Liam M Grover\, PhD\, FIMMM\, FMedSci  \nLiam M Grover is Professor of Biomaterials Science and Head of the School of Chemical Engineering at the University of Birmingham\, UK.  He is a materials scientist by training and his research focusses on better understanding the interactions that occur between materials and biological environments.  By improving our understanding of these interactions\, he has been able to design materials with enhanced therapeutic function.  He has filed more than thirty patents and has taken five products from concept to first in human trial\, including two that are now internationally available (nasal and oral barrier sprays).  His innovations have been protected by over thirty patent filings and described in over 250 published papers that have been cited over 11k times (H-index 59).   He has raised well over £50m of research funding while at the University of Birmingham and recently established an Innovation Accelerator in Medical Technology\, which was made possible by £20m of investment by the British government.  His achievements have been recognised with multiple prizes (e.g. Materials Innovation Award\, the President’s award for Biomaterials) and by him being elected fellow of the Institute of Materials.  He was recently elected to the prestigious position of Fellow of the Academy of Medical Sciences for his outstanding contribution to Biomaterials Science.  \n  \n \nEwa Truchanowicz \nEwa is an experienced business leader and independent advisor with experience of building successful enterprises who is now providing consulting services to technology-focused enterprises ranging from startups to multinationals. Until recently a Managing Director of a health tech company\, her expertise is in supporting international companies within digital and med-tech\, building highly performing teams and operations\, and creating networks of strategic support to help innovative companies succeed.  Ewa is an educator on tech and health\, a speaker at national and international events\, and a mentor\, healthtech executive\, and a former NED of publicly funded organisations (GBS LEP and WMHTC).  She is also a successful published academic and has authored peer-reviewed publications including in the highest ranking medical journals including BMJ and NEJM. A former bid reviewer for NIHR\, an assessor forInnovate UK and an honorary lecturer in a medical school at a UK University.  \n  \nProf John Hunt \nJohn Hunt is Professor of Clinical Sciences and Academic Lead for the Medical Technologies Innovation Facility (MTIF) at Nottingham Trent University\, where he drives research in medical technologies and advanced materials to address clinical needs across short \, medium  and long term horizons. His expertise spans biomaterials\, tissue engineering\, stem cell biology\, biocompatibility\, inflammation\, angiogenesis and regenerative medicine. He collaborates widely across academia\, industry and healthcare\, with a portfolio that includes digital health technologies\, wearables\, diagnostics and advanced therapies funded by major UK and international programmes.      \n  \n  \n \nDr Emma Salt \nDr Emma Salt is the NRC’s Allied Health Professional Consultant and Non-Medical Clinical Research Lead\, responsible for ensuring that patients are receiving the best therapy rehabilitation possible in an evidence-based way. Emma is a Consultant Physiotherapist by background and has more than 30 years’ experience in the NHS\, all with a core focus in musculoskeletal rehabilitation. \nEmma has a PhD in neuro-musculoskeletal rehabilitation\, she is passionate about clinically applicable research and improving rehabilitation\, and is currently an Honorary Associate Professor at the University of Nottingham. In addition\, Emma has previously held a role as a NICE Fellow and is now an associate editor for ‘Shoulder and Elbow’ which is a peer reviewed journal. \n  \n \nRobert Franks \nRobert is Managing Director of WM5G Limited – an innovative public non-for-profit company delivering pioneering diagnosis\, discharge and care solutions in partnership with the NHS and Local Authorities. Robert is passionate about using technology to deliver transformational benefits for citizens\, businesses and public services. Prior to leading WM5G\, Robert held senior leadership positions at O2\, T-Mobile and Orange. At O2\, Robert led the company’s new business portfolio where he launched and scaled a number of new businesses – including the UK’s largest Wi-Fi business – with over 28 million users – internet of things\, data analytics and fintech businesses. \n  \nDr Vicky Booth \nDr Vicky Booth is a Clinical-Academic Neurological Physiotherapist working alongside public contributors and colleagues from the University and NUH NHS Trust to realise the research ambition of this nationally important programme. In 2009\, she was one of the first cohort of NIHR-funded Master’s Fellowships\, and was the first Physiotherapist at NUH to be awarded a prestigious clinical-academic post-doctoral fellowship with the NIHR (2020-23). She is also an Associate Professor at UoN with a special interest in realist research methods. Her research has covered Nordic walking\, virtual reality\, rehabilitation to rejoin employment\, and exercise for people with dementia.  \n  \n  \n \nBarri Morgan Jones \nBarri brings over 25 years of NHS experience to the intersection of clinical practice and medtech innovation. Starting as an Occupational Therapist\, he progressed through senior operational and digital leadership roles across the NHS\, including a position as Senior Project Manager at NHS England where he led technology adoption programmes including the Digital Partnership Award.  \nHe now leads NHS strategy at Strolll – a digital health company using augmented reality to transform rehabilitation. His focus is on clinical trials\, NHS trust engagement\, and building the commercial and evidence pipeline that takes Strolll from promising technology to funded NHS adoption.
