DESCRIPTION:Join Medilink East Midlands\, in partnership with MedsOnTrack and JensonR+ to discuss Medicines Management in Professional Sport. \nOur speaker\, Steve Simbler\, is a pharmacist with over 20 years’ experience working in elite sport. Steve will share some of his experiences as one of the lead pharmacists for the London 2012 Olympics and Paralympics\, as well as some of the other events with which he has been involved. He will also describe his work with elite teams in various sports\, including topics such as: \n• the volumes of analgesics and anti-inflammatories taken by players/athletes\n• storage and security issues in training grounds and also associated with travel\n• lack of full time doctors in professional sport and problems associated with other healthcare professionals administering medications to players\n• record-keeping issues\n• controlled drugs issues\n• emergency & trauma medications management in a sports environment\n• lack of regulatory oversight or independent monitoring\n• concerns over doping issues \nDURATION: 1 HOUR \nThis free to attend event is held as part of the INSTILS programme – a project part-funded by the European Regional Development Fund\, click here to be re-directed to further information about the project. This event is classed as State Aid to participating businesses\, the value of which is £127\, but is delivered completely free of charge to participants \nSpeaker Profiles: \n \nSteve Simler MRPharm.s\, MedsOnTrack \nSteve has been working as a pharmacist in elite sport for over 20 years\, initially in a supply capacity\, and for the past 10 years in providing medicines management consultancy and software to teams in the Premier League and English Football League as well as national governing bodies for football\, rugby\, athletics\, tennis\, cricket\, rowing\, and cycling amongst others.\nHe was one of the lead pharmacists for the London 2012 Olympics and Paralympics\, then again for the London 2017 Athletics and Para-Athletics World Championships.\nAs well as giving talks about vitamin D\, he lectures on various topics pertaining to drugs in sport and the use of analgesics and anti-inflammatories in sport.\nIn 2006\, sport doctors approached Steve to advise on obtaining a reliable source of vitamin D that could pass tests for WADA-prohibited substances\, this prompted an association with Synergy Biologics\, makers of Pro D3\, and this relationship is ongoing\, and stimulated an interest in vitamin D on which he keeps abreast of research\, and reads extensively.\nSince 2016 Steve has been a pharmacist panel member for the General Pharmaceutical Council’s Fitness to Practise Committee\, and has recently started as an NHS Test and Trace clinical contact tracer on a part time basis. \n \nJanet Worrell\, Head of Regulatory\, JensonR+ \nJanet is an experienced regulatory affairs professional\, having supported a diverse portfolio of products\, for a number of companies across the East Midlands. Janet’s experience covers early concept development\, food supplements\, over the counter (OTC) medicines\, inhaled therapies and clinical trial applications. Janet enjoys collaborating with companies to develop their regulatory strategy to deliver commercial success. Janet is an independent board member of the East Midlands Academic Health Science Network supporting innovation within NHS.

DESCRIPTION:SEHTA and Psephos are pleased to bring you this FREE TO ATTEND webinar on Brexit/UKCA Marking. \nThe UKCA (UK Conformity Assessed) Marking is a new UK product marking that will be used for goods being placed on the market in Great Britain (England\, Wales and Scotland).  It covers most goods which previously required the CE Marking\, including medical devices and in vitro diagnostics.  Therefore\, from 1 January 2021\, there will be a number of changes to how companies will be able to place medical devices on the market in Great Britain. \nThursday 5th November 2020 \nTime:   14:00 – 14:30  (BST) \nCost:    Free to attend \nFacilitator:   Jacques du Preez\, Director\, Psephos Biomedica \nThis webinar will be delivered via Webex.\nFrom 1 January 2021\, there will be a number of changes to how companies will be able to place medical devices on the market in Great Britain which will include: \n\nA new route to market and product marking will be available for manufacturers wishing to place a device on the Great Britain market from 1 January 2021\n\n\nFrom 1 January 2021\, all medical devices and in-vitro diagnostic medical devices (IVDs) placed on the UK market will need to be registered with the MHRA. There will be a grace period for registering – 4 months for Class IIIs and Class IIb implantables\, and all active implantable medical devices; 8 months for other Class IIb and all Class IIa devices; and 12 months for Class I devices\n\n\nCE Marking will continue to be used and recognised until 30 June 2023\n\n\nIf you are a manufacturer based outside the UK and wish to place a device on the UK market\, you will need to establish a UK Responsible Person who will take responsibility for the product in the UK. Brown – Professor in Interactive Systems for Social Inclusion\, Nottingham Trent University\nDavid is Professor of Interactive systems for Social Inclusion\, with the Department of Computer Science at Nottingham Trent University. Recent grants on which he has acted as PI include 2 EU H2020 projects (MaTHiSiS and No One Left Behind) on affective computing and digital game making for students with learning disabilities and autism\, an EPSRC project (An Internet of Soft Things) on co-design of networked soft textile interfaces to promote mental wellbeing\, and a range of EU Erasmus projects (e.g.\, Pathway+) to use affective computing to provide personalised learning pathways for students with learning disabilities. He is Conference Co-Chair for the International Conference of Virtual Reality\, Disability and Associated Technologies\, and Associate Editor for Frontiers – Virtual Reality and Medicine. \n\nDr John Broulidakis- Research Scientist\, Emteq Labs\nJohn was educated at the university of Sussex where he gained a first-class honours degree in Psychology with Neuroscience. John completed his PhD at the University of Southampton in Cognitive Neuroscience in 2019. He has direct experience of the issues and challenges associated with managing large and complex clinical studies having successfully managed a €2.5million EU funded study. Currently he is working as a research scientist for medical device manufacture Emteq Labs. There he is involved in manufacturing ecologically valid\, “context aware” emotion recognition systems though novel wearable devices\n \n\nProf. Michael Hornberger- (Professor of Applied Dementia Research\, Norwich Medical School\, University of East Anglia) Associate Dean of Innovation\, Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences\, University of East Anglia)\nMichael is the Professor of Applied Dementia Research at the Norwich Medical School and the Associate Dean of Innovation\, Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences. His research focuses on improving diagnosis\, disease progression tracking and symptom management in dementia. His research group employs various research methodologies (clinical\, cognition\, sensor technology\, neuroimaging and genetics) as well as disease interventions (pharmacological and non-pharmacological) for their research studies. His current research is particularly focused on spatial orientation and navigation deficits in dementia and how this has an impact on people’s outdoor activities such as driving and walking safely.

David is involved in all aspects of patent drafting and prosecution\, predominantly in the areas of biotechnology and healthcare\, and is also a key member of our Trade Marks team\, having qualified as a Chartered Trade Mark Attorney in 2014.\nDavid is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Patent Attorneys\, and a member of the European Patents Institute. \n\nKatherine Wright\, Associate – Patent Attorney\, Adamson Jones IP \nKatherine graduated with a 1st Class Masters degree in Chemistry from the University of York. During her time there she completed a research project into mummification practices in Ancient Yemen\, focusing on identifying substances used in the embalming process. After graduating\, Katherine spent some time as a Research Assistant within the Physics Department at the University of Birmingham where she was part of a research team developing Positron Emission Tomography for use in industry and research.\nKatherine joined AdamsonJones in April 2010\, and trained with the firm. In April 2011 Katherine was awarded the Moss Prize for the candidate achieving the highest aggregate marks in the patent Foundation Papers of the 2010 qualifying examination\, a year later she followed that success by winning the prize for the best performance in the 2011 Advanced Patent Drafting paper\, and then she won the prize for the top mark in the 2012 Advanced Patent Attorneys’ Practice paper. Katherine qualified as a UK patent attorney in April 2013 and as European Patent Attorney in 2014\, and is involved in the full range of patent filing\, prosecution and advisory work for a variety of clients\, predominantly in the fields of pharmaceuticals\, healthcare and related technologies.
