Two colleagues at Birmingham-based intellectual property firm Forresters, Dr William Powell and Ian Duncan, were recently promoted, becoming Senior Associates at the firm.

Ian is a UK Chartered and European Patent Attorney based in our Birmingham office. Since joining Forresters in 2018, Ian has utilised his significant expertise in aerospace and defence, clean/green technologies, and medical devices, working with clients across a range of industries and sectors.

This has included work on innovations in grid system reactive power services, acoustic devices, and rotor arrangements for tiltrotor aircraft, as well as work on a number of registered designs.

Will is a UK Chartered and European Patent Attorney who joined the team in 2024, having completed his training at a previous firm. He has particular experience in handling patent matters related to software and computer technology, with experience in drafting and prosecuting patent applications for large corporate clients spanning a range of technical fields.

He is particularly active in the fields of consumer electronics, video games, image processing, virtual reality (VR) technologies, software, computer hardware and artificial intelligence (AI).

Both Ian and Will have made a significant contribution to raising the profile of Forresters in the Birmingham area, nationally and internationally, acting as trusted advisors to our clients around the world.

Managing Partner Matt Shaw said:

“On behalf of all our colleagues at Forresters, I am pleased to congratulate Ian and Will on becoming Senior Associates. They have consistently displayed the hard work and commitment to Forresters and our clients which we very much value, and their promotions are richly deserved. I look forward to seeing them progress further in the coming years.”
