Barker Brettell, a leading UK firm of intellectual property specialists, named in The Financial Times’ top list of patent firms, are delighted that two trainee attorneys – Leah Calvert and Paul O’Connor – have passed the relevant exams in Trade Mark Law and Practice, from Queen Mary’s University. This now means they are now part-qualified trade mark attorneys and will continue their training and development with the firm before preparing for their final exams.

Both Leah and Paul joined the firm in 2018 and have experience in assisting clients with obtaining trade mark registrations in a range of sectors including automotive, food and drink and fashion. Both have also written insight features and articles for the company website.

Leah said – “I never thought I’d be sitting exams in the middle of a global pandemic but I’m so glad that it all worked out and I’m now a part qualified trade mark attorney. I couldn’t have asked for a better team to support me through it!”

Paul said – “I am very pleased that I have successfully passed the Queen Mary course, despite having to prepare for the exams during lockdown. Barker Brettell ensured I had the best support needed (even when working from home) to help with the pressure of the exams”.

Headquartered in Birmingham and with offices in Southampton, London, and most recently Stockholm, Barker Brettell is well known for retaining its staff. Many of the senior attorneys joined as trainees and the firm has a reputation for nurturing home grown talent. The firm has recently been recognised by Compumark as ‘Top 2 UK representative for UK trademark and EUTM applications 2020 YTD’; and ranked by The World Trademark Review (WTR) as ‘Top Swedish EU TM filer 2019’.
