BPR Medical has just completed its US home oxygen fires study, which was launched as part of the International Patient Safety Day programme.

The study found media reports covering 311 separate fires in the US involving home oxygen over a 20-month period resulting in 164 deaths, 71 serious injuries and 119 minor injuries. This amounts to more than one death every four days. Beyond these headline numbers, the study also revealed some surprising findings, including risks to third parties, cylinder explosions and the number of home oxygen fires in mobile homes.
