Flexiplastics, a division of Specialised Canvas Group, is based in Chesterfield just two minutes from junction 29a of the M1. During the Ebola outbreak in 2014, Flexiplastics were enlisted to work closely with the NHS and Ministry of Defence to manufacture medical isolators which were used to repatriate British nationals who were exposed to the virus.

Amid the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic, Flexiplastics has stepped up to the plate again! Developing a high quality, re-usable face shield product in only days to supply the nation’s key workers with vital protection.

Despite having closed their doors on Wednesday 25th March, following the UK Government’s lockdown announcement, the company received an enquiry from a local care home around lunch time on the Thursday and had designed, prototyped and delivered the first batch of face shields to local care homes by the Friday afternoon, much to the delight of the home’s nurses and residents.

10 days later and the company has been featured on national BBC News and demand is still growing rapidly, with orders coming in from hospitals, GP surgeries, supermarkets, dental surgeries and most notably care homes.

Sam Bramah, Director at Flexiplastics said: “We’ve gone from closing our doors last week and not knowing when we might open them again, to manufacturing an entirely new product into a new market in a matter of days, which really is testament to the great team we have working here. Thanks to our facilities, infrastructure and skilled team we are fortunate to be in a position to support the nation’s key workers in these unprecedented times and play our small part in the ongoing battle.”

Flexiplastics has now created plans to produce up to 5,000 units a day as well as developing further new products including disposable hair scrubs and aprons, all whilst practising social distancing and adhering to all government guidelines.
